Whale

Whale

In the beginning, Blues Whale comprised the essence of blues and of American roots music  mixed/ dressed with their very personal signature: strong while dynamic and varied. Reminiscences of Delta blues, Lousiana, Chicago… a pinch of bluegrass folk and a touch of ragtime; all that within a cared musical style and a musical range far wider than the four members of the band.

At present they have changed their name to Whale, and begin to take off, away from their more traditional roots and towards sounds that remind us of the American hard rock of the 70's.

             A bit of history:

Blues Whale was born in Zaragoza in 2012. They first performed in the Blues Moon festival receiving a warm welcome from the audience. After that first concert, many other festivals will come: BLUES ARMADO, A 5 BANDAS, BLUES MOON, THE WINE FEST OF 'EL SOMONTANO' 2017, BLUES FESTIVAL OF TARDIENTA, BELCHITE'S FESTIVAL… The band is also elected for the opening act of the original The Blues Brothers Band.

Their first CD, self-edited in 2012, is 'Double Side Mojo'. Live recorded in 'Estudios Primarios', its repertoire consists of covers of classic blues entangled in Blues Whale's demeanor but living up to the expectations of the genre. The retro-pulp look of the CD sleeve was designed by artist Chema Cebolla and Xcar Malavida.

Their second recording work, 'Four Birds' (Gaztelupeko Hotsak, 2019), is a remarkable breakthrough for the band. Recorded at the studio 'Audio Feeling', it features ten original songs and only one version, stating the definitive distancing from standards and common places to walk their own way in the blues and the American music. The same year, 'Four Brids' is ranked  one of the 10 best music records in Aragon and Blues Whale becomes nominee for Best Band in the awards of Aragon Musical.

‘Leaving The Blues Behind’ is more than the title of their third work, since the band signs it as WHALE, their new name. This record, whose premiere will be at the Blues Moon Festival in Zaragoza, heads a new direction, and despite their blues roots, the new compositions drift through new and surprising musical streams.
